About me
Maia Green is an Australian painter living and working on Yugambeh land, in South East Queensland.
I am influenced by the Australian landscape and interiors layered with nostalgia. My eye is constantly drawn to the colours and textures of the natural environment, the green rural landscapes of Northern NSW in which I grew up; and the coastal and hinterland landscapes I am now surrounded by. It is these experiences that inspire my original fine art pieces, cards, jewellery and objects for the home.
In my work, layers of varying opacity and intricate textures interplay in an aim to explore a uniquely Australian harmony present between the natural and manmade environments. Usually small in scale and unimposing, my pieces act as a reflection of quiet moments in time; a reminder to hold space for a moment of beauty. My artistic work ranges from still life paintings, abstract and illustrative pieces.
I have always been an artist. From a young age I was drawn to the minutest of details and conveyed this through intricate drawings of trees and plants laden with birds and insects. I studied a Bachelor of Creative Industries and later completed a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Visual Arts Teaching. After a decade of study, work and teaching and not a lot of art, I started my family. Taking time away from my career to take care of my babies enabled me to get back to my art. I still teach, in a casual capacity however now I practice professionally as an artist.
My paintings have been exhibited and sold across Australia and my designs surface design collaborations. I am an emerging artist constantly broadening my techniques honing my artistic style. My paintings are constantly evolving just as my product range, available exclusively in carefully selected stockists and in my online shop.
